Raise a Glass to Coastal Virginia Varietals

Virginia’s location between Europe and California gives its wines a local character that blends the best of both worlds. They’re made from grapes that are often overlooked in other regions, or they offer a distinct expression of familiar grapes like chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon. Here’s your opportunity to discover how Virginia wines have come into their own and rightfully claimed their place in winemaking history.

Your grape-centric getaway begins with check-in at Marriott’s Manor Club at Ford’s Colony, followed by a welcome dinner with fellow Owners at Cochon on 2nd. Immerse yourself in a symphony of flavors as each course unfolds, complemented by the distinct character of the concept’s finest vintages.

On Day 2 you’ll visit two local wineries well known for winemaking excellence. Tour both wine estates to learn interesting facts “through the grapevine.” Admire the sprawling and majestic vineyards. Then sample their superb varietals for yourself. The first vineyard is veteran-owned Gauthier Vineyard. Their estate wines are made exclusively from Norton grapes sourced from a specific site in the Shenandoah Valley. Later, you’ll taste how they perfectly pair with a delicious on-site lunch.

Next, you’ll head to New Kent Winery for another tour and tasting. The winery itself was built using materials from several century-old structures, such as pine trusses from a Richmond Railroad depot. In addition, you’ll appreciate modern technique and state-of-the-art equipment that have brought their winemaking into the 21st century.

Find some time around your scheduled event activities to explore Colonial Williamsburg on your own. You’ll receive a one-day pass to use at your discretion. Learn about 18th-century living through immersive and authentic programs and presentations. Tour the buildings, see recreated homes, and speak with the actors and learn about life in old America. The area encompasses 301 acres of restored properties and reenactors showing what life was like during the founding of the United States.

Spaces are limited for this event. If we had you at merlot, please reserve now and avoid that sour grapes feeling later.
